BIRD FRIENDLY GLASS
Architects are keen to use large glazing in the design of houses, public buildings or multi-storey commercial buildings. At the same time, buildings with large glazing have been shown to pose a threat to birds. Birds are often unable to recognise glass as an obstacle, leading to collisions. It is estimated that millions of birds die each year as a result of hitting glass.
To improve bird safety in the urban glass jungle, products known as Bird-Friendly Glass have been developed. Products in such category (e.g. printed glass, films with reflective elements, special coatings) represent a safe compromise between increasing urbanisation with large façade glazing and bird protection. Bird-Friendly Glass has special features that are recognisable to birds and at the same time blend in with the architectural elements without disturbing the aesthetics.

Bird Frit
Silk-screen covered or digitally printed glass can be used for both decorative and functional purposes. The partially opaque glass panes allow a controlled flow of light into the interior and the visible pattern acts as a barrier to birds, preventing them from hitting the glass.

SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D
SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D is a special bird-friendly foil with visual elements (sequins) designed for laminated glass. The special regular arrangement of the pattern reduces the risk of birds collisions with the glazing.
SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D should be applied as close as possible to the outer edge of the glazed façade to provide collision protection. The silver sequins on the SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D foil should face outwards. For insulated glazed units, it is best to place the VSG pane in the outer position, directly exposed to daylight, with the silver sequins facing outwards.
SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D can be used as the external component of a package of Double Glazing Unit (DGU) or Triple Glazing Unit (TGU) with Saflex® FlySafeTM 3D PVB film on the inside of the laminate and a solar control coating on the outside (always in position #4). SaflexTM FlySafeTM 3D foil is compatible with other foils from this manufacturer.

AviSafeTM
AviSafeTM is a glass with a special patterned coating that enhances the reflection of UV radiation, disrupting light reflections and thus making the glass visible to birds. In order for AviSafeTM glass to fulfil its function of protecting against bird collisions, it should be used in the first position in a glazed unit.
